Het ontwikkelen van een nieuwe test vraagt veel tijd en geld in verband met de te nemen stappen van 1. proof of principle, 2. proof of concept, 3. onafhankelijke validatie, 4. implementatie.
De 'Phelix Phage Borrelia test' zit (pas) in fase 2. 'proof of concept'. De ontwikkeling van de andere testen ('Phelix Phage Bartonella test' en de 'Phelix Phage Rickettsia test') zitten (pas) in fase 1.'proof of principle'.

Er zullen verschillende klinische onderzoeken, dubbelblind gerandomiseerd placebo gecontroleerd onderzoek (Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT)), moeten worden gedaan met verschillende groepen mensen en patiënten om het gestelde te kunnen bevestigen en bewijzen. Dat proces zal veel tijd(jaren) gaan vragen.

Hoe kan Borrelia miyamotoi ziekte worden behandeld?
De behandeling van Borrelia miyamotoi ziekte is vergelijkbaar met die van Lymeziekte en bestaat uit antibioticatabletten. In de meeste gevallen heeft doxycycline (tweemaal daags 1 tablet van 100 mg gedurende 2 weken) de voorkeur. None of them provided any feedback on why my Lyme disease-focused grant proposals were out of favor. I know that dealing with rejection is part of life, especially for scientists who often feel like they're begging for funding. I can't help but wonder if it's a problem with the system, my own bad luck, or if Lyme disease doesn't exist. My grandma, a Buddhist, always had a way of explaining bad things through the lens of karma. I wish she were still here to help me make sense of this..

It is important to note that in cases where the individuals tested positive for two different strains of Borrelia, such as Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia miyamotoi, only one strain at a time was targeted. Upon retesting using the Phelix Borrelia-Phage test, only the targeted strain was tested as eliminated, while the untreated strain persisted. When this latter strain was targeted using the BES to strategically induce other polyvalent phages to eliminate the remaining strain of Borrelia, repeat Phelix Borrelia-Phage testing resulted in it being apparently eliminated [14]. No adverse effects of the treatment were reported, nor was there a typical Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction worsening of the patient's symptoms due to the speed of bacteriophage killing of the targeted infection and the absence of bacterial toxins in Borrelia spirochetes [15]. To date, outstanding clinical results have been seen in many types of bacterial, viral, fungal, mycoplasmal, and other types of infections.

Activity 2022:
- Improving the sensitivity of the Phage Based borrelia test with our partner in Belgium, RedLabs, who are in charge of the commercialisation of the Test.
- Exploring new technologies in order to automate the DNA extraction from biological samples.
- University of Leicester and Phelix Research and Development: Trying to redesign a Phage Based test for Bartonella sp. as the previous test did not show promising sensitivity.
- University of Leicester and Phelix Research and Development: working on the next research paper on Borrelia Miyamotoi.
- Finalising the documents for the filing of the Patent of the Borrelia phage based test: UK, USA, EU (Patent attorney Murgitroyd law firm)..

..Whilist the trustees are aware of the need to build reserves for a substaniable future. This is not considered necessary at this time due to the support of the trustees..

Interessant is hoe de verdere ontwikkelingen zullen gaan. Er is een tekort van £20.269 (€23.403) ontstaan. De trustees, mede-oprichters en investeerders (Teulières en Louvet (Charity trustees are the people who ultimately exercise control over and are legally responsible for the charity. If the charity is a company these people may also be known as directors or board members)) moeten verschillende leningen (totaal 2022: £382.246 in 2021: £378.492) zien terug te verdienen in de komende jaren.

..We are thrilled to announce the new article on Phage test: “Successful diagnosis and treatment of Borrelia miyamotoi in a patient with joint and muscle pains, ME/CFS and cognitive dysfunction following tick bites: a case report.”

This article is a case report detailing the successful diagnosis and treatment of Borrelia miyamotoi disease (BMD), a type of tick-borne relapsing fever (TBRF), in a patient suffering from joint and muscle pain, cognitive dysfunction, and chronic fatigue after multiple tick bites. Diagnosing BMD is particularly challenging due to its similarity to Lyme disease (LD) and the lack of a characteristic rash that can help diagnose LD. In this case, standard diagnostic tests (like ELISA and antibody tests) failed to detect any infections, including LD, Bartonella, or Anaplasma.

However, a phage-based PCR (phb-PCR) test, which detects bacterial phages rather than just bacterial DNA, was able to identify Borrelia miyamotoi. This allowed the patient to receive appropriate treatment, including antibiotics and intravenous vitamin therapy, resulting in a significant improvement in her symptoms.

Importance of the Article for Understanding Lyme and Tick-borne Diseases:
- Diagnostic Challenges: The report highlights how current Lyme disease tests can be unreliable when other tick-borne infections like BMD are involved. It emphasizes that negative test results for Lyme and other infections don't rule out the presence of pathogens like Borrelia miyamotoi.
