RELYING ON A NEGATIVE LYME DISEASE TEST CAN PROVE DEADLY

In August of 2013, a 17-year-old boy died suddenly from cardiac arrest. Initially, health officials blamed the Powassan virus for his death. But a recent report in Cardiovascular Pathologist finds that Joseph Elone, from Poughkeepsie, died from Lyme carditis. It was not a rare virus but Lyme disease that claimed the young man's life.

Borrelia is (al decennialang) eenvoudig te detecteren met de Elisa test en Western Blot test, of toch niet ??

Reasons Why Someone Could

Have A False-Negative Lyme Test

Dr. Robert Bransfield

1. Recent infection- before immune response has had time to produce antibodies

2. Antibodies are bound in immune complexes

3. Spirochete encapsulated by host tissue (i.e. lymphocytic cell walls)

4. Spirochete is deep in host tissue (i.e. fibroblasts, neurons, etc.)

5. Blebs in body fluid, no whole organisms needed for PCR

6. No spirochetes in body fluid on day of test

7. Genetic heterogeneity (300 strains, 100 in U.S.)

8. Antigenic variability

9. Surface antigens change with temperature

10. Utilization of host protease instead of microbial protease

11. Spirochete in dormancy phase (L-form) with no cell walls

12. Recent antibiotic treatment for any condition

13. Recent anti-inflammatory treatment

14. Concomitant infection with Babesia may cause immunosuppression

15. Other causes of immunosuppression

16. Lab with poor technical capability for Lyme disease

17. Lab tests not standardized for late stage disease

18. Lab tests labeled "for investigational use only"

19. CDC criteria is epidemiological and is not a diagnostic criteria

20. Lack of standardized control

21. Most controls use only a few strains as a reference point

22. Few organisms are present

23. Encapsulated by glycoprotein "S-layer" which impairs immune recognition

24. "S"- layer binds to IgM

CHRONIC LYME DISEASE: A NEW ERA OF IGNORANCE

Presently, it would be easy to blame your doctor for this, but not all doctors are to blame. Many are bullied by insurance companies who work hand-in-hand with the CDC and IDSA to not give their patients the whole story.

They won’t tell you the FDA-approved Western Blot Test for Lyme is only about fifty percent accurate at best and that the longer you’re sick, the more inconsistent the test becomes. They won’t tell you there have been attempts to enact laws requiring doctors to tell any patient given these tests that they are about as reliable as a coin toss. They won’t tell you that a “bulls-eye rash” appears on people who contract Lyme less than fifty percent of the time.

Hoe langer je ziek bent des te inconsistenter wordt de Western Blot test voor Lyme, lees ik dat nou goed?

Zo ja het zal mij niks verbazen als dat bij de Elisa test voor Lyme ook het geval is.

Your Lyme Disease Test Results Are Negative, but Your Symptoms Say Otherwise;

many doctors will still rely on laboratory tests to definitively determine whether a patient does or does not have the disease. And that can have serious, even deadly consequences for patients that have Lyme disease yet don’t start treatment because of a negative lab test result(s).
So why would an infected patient test negative for Lyme disease? It turns out there are a number of reasons that could trigger false negative test results. The following article highlights some of the issues that may be at fault. Be sure to share these potential concerns and considerations with your doctor when discussing diagnostic testing options for Lyme disease.

The Test Isn’t Designed to Detect the Exact Disease-Causing Bacteria You Have

A number of Lyme disease lab tests are designed to identify only a few species of the Borrelia bacteria that can cause Lyme disease. In the United States, for example, many tests are only designed to detect B. burgdorferi, leaving out many other species that are less common yet still known to cause the disease in humans, including the recently discovered B. mayonii. This inability of many lab tests to cast a wide enough net of detection could result in false negative results for patients infected with different strains of disease-causing Borrelia.1

Will There Ever Be
An Accurate Test for Lyme Disease?

A Reference Booklet For Lyme Patients
By
Tom Grier

ELISA Recap:

• The ELISA test is useless within the first four weeks of a tick bite.

The ELISA may not detect late infection because the bacteria can find immune privileged sites in
which to hide.

• The ELISA test is not a standardized test. The design of the test can vary greatly from lab to lab.

• The choice of antigens used in the test is derived from a laboratory strain B-31 instead of the
naturally occurring wild strains. The B-31 strain is proving to be highly variable and changing.

Using a high passage lab strain may be cheap and convenient, but not an accurate representation
of the various strains of Borrelia found in nature.

• The accuracy of the test varies even on identical samples, meaning that even the labs themselves
introduce a variable of inaccuracy by poor procedure, interpretation, or quality control.

"Every day is a bad day" My invisible battle with Lyme disease

Emma said she didn’t have much faith in the Irish system when it came to the possibility of Lyme disease. “I knew that the testing in Ireland is totally inadequate and totally unreliable. It misses 70% of patients." So she contacted a specialist lab in Germany and her blood work showed she had Lyme Disease and several co-infections.
