Conclusion
This study provides valuable insights into the relationship between Chlamydia trachomatis infection and female infertility. Our findings indicate a relatively low prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis among infertile women, with high titers of IgG antibodies suggesting recurrent or prolonged infections being more commonly associated with infertility than IgM antibodies. This highlights the potential role of chronic Chlamydia trachomatis infections in contributing to infertility.
Repeated and persistent infection with Chlamydia and the development of chronic inflammation and disease
Aggressive inflammatory responses to repeated infections, and to a persistent form of this intracellular bacterium, are thought to initiate the pathogenic events that lead to the debilitating sequelae of blinding trachoma and infertility
Chlamydia knock out the body’s own cancer defence
By breaking down the cancer-suppressing protein p53, Chlamydia prevent programmed cell death and thereby favour the process of cancer development
