Like other chlamydiae, this pathogen has a tendency to cause persistent infections and chronic stimulation which may favor development of OAL. The combination of culture with PCR has shown to improve the sensitivity of PCR thus suggesting its potential use to detect C. trachomatis.

Conclusion
The wild genotypes of the IL6 and IL8 gene polymorphisms were present at a high frequency and with elevated CRP expression and proved to be good predictors of heart disease. The presence of bacterial antigens in situ (37) reinforces the suggestion that C. trachomatis can also reach the cardiovascular system and cause disease. The results are relevant to the understanding of genetic susceptibility, the interaction between pro- and anti-inflammatory markers, the control of gene expression, and the role of infectious agents capable of potentiating the inflammatory reaction of heart disease.
