So now I am forced to go back and 
look for other funding opportunities. What a waste of my precious time.
Despite a Washington get together a few months ago highlighting how Lyme is now on everyone's radar, and that they are going to find answers...its not on the radar of some top officials who despite their proclamations were clearly unaware of what these old school NIH reviewers were doing when they
denied my grant.
I was asking for 1/4 million dollars to design the study in the R34 NIH grant. Not a lot of money, yet it was still turned down.
I was willing to prove my findings to the world. The NIH wasn't interested..

8 million dollars to do a
RCT on dapsone combination therapy and the MSIDS model if we count 25k per patient for a 350 person study (that is an estimate, once we get a ).
Then I can prove to the world that we have answers.
We are asking for a bit more than 1/4 million in our present grant proposal to design the study, paying a statistician and doctors participating in
our R34 NIH grant (
in part from Mt Sinai and UCSF) to ensure it is designed in a way that it answers basic scientific questions about chronic Lyme disease, indisputably. Including effects on the immune system, which we published several years ago, building upon Nicole Baumgarth's study in mice. We proved that Lyme patients, like mice infected with Borrelia, can get immune deficiency with low IgG levels and subclasses. Unfortunately without a RCT,
certain university researchers refuse to believe my research. That is why in part, I am aiming to do a
RCT,
the 'gold standard in medicine'. We don't have to pretend we don't have answers for chronic Lyme disease. See my Substack tomorrow. But we do need the research funds to prove it scientifically beyond a doubt..

Er is véél geld (
5-7 miljoen dollar?!) voor nodig en de voorbereiding én het onderzoek zullen een aantal jaren gaan duren.
Gaat R.H de genoemde benodigde
5-8 miljoen dollar bij elkaar krijgen? De MSIDS Research Foundation Inc. (MRF) heeft dat bedrag voorlopig niet in kas; Bron

Richard Horowitz is medeoprichter van ILADS, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society. Deze organisatie heeft een veel bredere kijk op chronische Lyme en andere tekenbeetinfecties dan bijvoorbeeld de Nederlandse behandelings-richtlijnen. Dokter Horowitz geeft geregeld lezingen en nascholingen. Hij is lid van de Amerikaanse werkgroep die aanbevelingen heeft geformuleerd voor het Amerikaanse congres over de diagnose en behandeling van tekenbeetinfecties.
Dokter Horowitz heeft twee best-selling boeken geschreven: ‘Why Can’t I Get Better?’ en het nieuwere en iets makkelijk leesbaardere ‘How Can I Get Better?’. Richard Horowitz zal achteraf boeken signeren.

geen data safety monitoring board wat bij de combinatie van deze geneesmiddelen zeker geeist zou worden. De "special" waar dit verhaal onderdeel van is, bevat alleen dit artikel. Tot mijn verrassing wordt er
geen "conflict of interest" gerapporteerd terwijl de
auteurs de enigen zijn die patienten op deze manier behandelen en daar zeer goed voor betaald worden. Ik gun iedere Lymepatient een goede behandeling, maar
deze cocktail van sterk werkende medicatie met serieuze bijwerkingen (van de cocktail zijn de bijwerkingen niet gerapporteerd) is
zeer dubieus..

Just as he refused to succumb to either the illness or the shame of it nearly 20 years ago when he was diagnosed with HIV, Verdult is not backing down when he’s told that Lyme -which he says has made him far more ill than HIV ever has- is no big deal, or all in his head..
